What Can't Go in a Dumpster?

Straight answers from a local North Texas crew.

Most household and renovation waste can go in a dumpster, but some items are restricted because they are hazardous or need special handling. Rules can vary by hauler and disposal site, so always ask before you load anything you are unsure about.

Items that usually are not allowed

Hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, chemicals, pesticides and fuel. Batteries and electronics. Tires. Propane tanks and other compressed gas cylinders. Medical waste. Asbestos. If you have any of these, ask us how to handle them.

Items that may need special handling

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners contain refrigerant and often need special handling. Mattresses and large furniture are usually fine but take up space. Ask us before loading appliances or anything unusual.

What you can usually put in a dumpster

Household junk and cleanout debris, furniture, yard waste and brush, drywall, wood, flooring, carpet, cabinets and general construction and remodel debris are common dumpster loads.

Watch the weight

Our 20 yard dumpster includes 2 tons. Heavy material like concrete, dirt, brick, tile and roofing shingles adds weight fast. Extra weight is $85 per ton, so if your project is heavy, tell us up front.
